For the last two years, my middle girls have been blessed with the opportunity to be in a drama troupe. It has been such a great experience for them in so many ways. They have made wonderful friends, become more confident, had great fun, and have learned a whole lot about what it takes to put on a production.

Their first ever performance was December 2010. They performed the play Believe. This past spring the troupe performed Alice in Wonderland, and weren’t we all pleasantly surprised when one of the girls got the part of Alice.

This year at Christmas, the girls were in the play, O Holy Knight.

Right now, they are beginning their preparation for the spring performance of Jungle Book.

With dance auditions, wedding plans, two boys playing baseball, and a spring play I believe it will be a very packed spring. My calendar already looks tired.

Here’s the whole family after the Christmas play. It’s rare to get these shots anymore. It makes me sad. I blinked my eyes and some of them were grown.

This school year held a lot of changes and opportunities for my 10th grade son. He is attending a small local Christian school, thanks to the Faith First Scholarship Fund. The transition from home school to a classroom setting has gone very well. I love the small class size, and attending has also given him the opportunity to play the sports he loves.

His football team had a great season this year. They went all the way to the state championship game. I will be honest and tell you I am not loving that he is playing football. It scares me every time he goes on the field. So, when he broke his finger at football practice early in the season, I’m not gonna lie… I was relieved he wouldn’t be playing half the season.

As soon as football season ended, we decided to let him give JV basketball a try. I was quite thankful for basketball. I thought, “Great a fairly safe sport.” I told him I would be glad to dust off my cheerleading pompoms and do a half-time routine. For some reason he did not seem too thrilled by my fabulous idea.

As for the safe sport…since the season began he has had a concussion, a broken finger and a hurt shoulder.

Now, here we are at baseball season, which begins this week. This is actually the sport he has played consistently since he was four. I am thrilled he has the opportunity to play. Let’s hope he doesn’t start the season off as he did last year’s baseball season…with a broken wrist. :/

In addition, for those who might be wondering…my son and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta are on a first name basis. When he walks in, they yell his name and warmly welcome him back…much the same way the patrons of “Cheers” used to welcome Norm.

This past year the ballerina decided to stay home and attend an inexpensive community college close to the house while continuing her dance training. I cannot express how proud I am of her. She has shown such determination pursuing her dream. She attends school full-time, works as much as possible at a local Chick-fil-a to pay for her dance classes, and dances about 20 hours a week.

I’ll be honest with you, ballet at this level is expensive and the ballerina is trying her best to pay for her classes herself. This has been very difficult as a parent to watch her try to do. Unfortunately, church planting and having eight children doesn’t go too well with affording dance classes. The other children decided they would rather eat than pay for her classes.

So, if any of you out there would like to sponsor a ballerina I am sure she would wear your logo on her leotard. :)

So far this year she has tried out for two college dance programs: The University of Alabama and Belhaven University. She was thrilled to have been accepted to both.

Right now, she is trying to decide if she wants to go into a college dance program or try to go straight into an apprentice or trainee program at a dance company. Over the next few months, she will be auditioning for The Alabama Ballet and The Nashville Ballet. We are still adding dance companies to the list and praying the Lord will make it very clear where He wants to use her to bring Glory to Him.

My personal blog has been neglected except for my around the web posts over the last several months. It is not because nothing has been happening around here. I think it’s because so much has been happening and I don’t know where to start when I sit down to compose a post. So, for now I will start with a few major events we are working on around here. For those that might not know the oldest girl is getting married this June. I know preacher daddy posted the proposal on his blog a while back, but I haven’t shared it on mine, so here it is.

Check back tomorrow for an update on the second born…better known as the ballerina.

What is the one thing that will kill your ministry faster than anything else?

Consider that question as you read. I frequently love to read Proverbs. Reading these principles of life and godliness often serves as a corrective for me as I work and pursue ministry. Something I mentioned a few weeks back was a tendency toward performancism

“The mature worshiper is easily edified.” When hearing lackluster (even if biblical) preaching, immature worshipers will typically not listen to the message because they wish the messenger was more exciting. Conversely, mature worshipers eagerly receive the truth as it is proclaimed, even if it sounds like the preacher is reading a phone book.

And this is what I feel compelled to say: Tonight, stop and take a really good look at your spouse. Next, look at each of your children. Look really, really long and hard. Take a moment and thank God for every whisper of a moment that God has given you with them. Thank God for the little kisses offered, the stories told, the tickles dispensed, the games played, the readings shared, the silent moments cherished, the victories experienced, the losses endured, the kind words presented , the songs sung, the glances exchanged. These moments not only count for eternity, but they will be remembered for the next billion years after you leave this minuscule moment in time called “life.” Every moment with your loved one matters. Someday they or you will be gone. Every conversation matters. Every kind deed in the name of Christ matters. It all matters.
